Dear GE – I purchased this General Electric Water Heater 2 years ago from Home Depot and the Thermocouple went bad. Per your GE website the unit is no longer being manufactured and I want to know how I get the money back from GENERAL ELECTRIC. Lucky for me I called TOM the Best Water Heater repairman in the South Bay, El Segundo, Los Angeles 310-649-4333 to fix the problem until it breaks down again.

Failed after 2 years 6 months of light use
Not only did it fail after being used a short time under very light use, the product does not take a universal replacement part. If a product has this kind of a record, it should have been recalled by the manufacturer.
✘ No, I do not recommend this product.

yep…same problem as all the rest. So annoying.
Plus is a closed system so it’s gonna be stupid time consuming to replace a part that goes out ALL the TIME. Wish they made it easier to replace if they are going to put substandard parts on their water heaters.

FAILED AFTER 2 YEARS 1 MONTH!!
Purchased this unit in April of 2012 for $550, the pilot will not stay lit. This unit has had minimal usage, as I’m single, live in a one bedroom apartment and I’m away from home 50-60 hours a week. Called GE, they are sending out a new thermal coupler with “easy self installation instructions”. Did some research on this product, it is discontinued and not sold in stores anywhere. In fact I can only find one GE hot water heater for sale, a 50 gallon hybrid hot water heater for $1200. GE should probably make a better product, based on these reviews, I will never purchase a GE hot water heater and I will definitely discourage my friends and family from also purchasing one. Thanks

not as bad as it seems
My water heater lasted less than three years. After I read all these negative reviews, my heart sank. In fact, I wrote a review, giving the product 1 star. But when I got a message in my inbox, asking me to verify the review, I had a change of heart. That was because of the GE service dept. Since the unit carries a 6 year warrantee, they promised to immediately send me a new thermocouple. I also asked for replacement instructions, which they immediately sent. But there were for some generic thermocouple and this one is every different, due to the low nox design. So I called again and asked for specific instructions for THIS thermocouple. I noted in the instructions that 7 times, they state the importance of changing all the gaskets when changing the thermocouple. So I called swerve a third time and they explained they send that too. Replacement was time consuming. Expect to spend several hours. The new thermocouple/pilot assembly didn’t match the one I removed. They were mirror images of each other. After reading the instructions multiple times, I noted that you have to also change the bracket that holds them, using the one that comes with the replacement kit. It holds the thermocouple further away from the flames and I’m thinking that was because this early design (mine was made in 2013) was flawed. So the new bracket was their way of fixing it. I’m hopeful that this NEW design will make this last many more years than the first one. The instructions show MULTIPLE angles of the way the thermocouple is mounted. Take your time and you’ll be fine. .
