Actress Karina Diglyte talks to us about her new project coming up with Al Pacino
We recently sat down with the beautiful and talented Karina Diglyte about her exciting acting career and a new movie she has coming up with Hollywood legend, Al Pacino.
How and when did you first get into performing?
I have loved films since a very early age, but I first got into acting in a TV show called Candid Camera, I would be in every episode acting out real situations – pranks. Then I was cast in a national TV commercial advertising a mobile phone company. Even though I had a Business Bachelors Degree and I was working in a bank, i decided to change my career path and study acting.
Who were some of your biggest inspirations?
I love Meg Ryan, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts…all their films they have made have left an impact on me, I also love European cinema, but American movies are my favorite. Shawshank Redemption, Shindler’s List, to name a few..
What kind of training have you had, if any?
i studied at Central school of speech and drama, London, then i went to study Method acting and then the Meisner technique (Sandy Meisner). Then i was performing in theatre, doing a play by Paddy Chaevsky “Mother”, that’s where I was spotted by a film director who invited me to act in my first lead role in a feature film “Morning tea”. This film did really well in the Festival Circus in 2010. I also took courses in LA with Lesly Kahn and Ivana Chubbuck and Actors Temple in London.
What has been your favorite role to play so far?
My favorite role was Nina Roden in a film called “The sting of Martyr”, this was a beautiful film, filled with mystery and amazing special effects, which was directed by Award winning director Simon Giles, who is famous for his special effects. Simon has even won a BAFTA award for visual effects for the TV series “Gormenghast” and has worked on films like “Deep blue sea”, “The Devil’s double”, “Royal night out” and many more others. I was acting opposite Steve Nicolson and great American actor Jeff Fahey. In this film, my character is turning into a 1930’s diva singing on stage the famous Billie Holliday hit “Ain’t misbehaving”. I had to prepare very well for this role, taking singing lessons. I love playing roles, where I get to learn new skills.
What has been one of your biggest achievements in your career so far?
My biggest achievement is that I was cast to play a lead role in a feature film opposite the legendary Al Pacino. The film will be shot in Los Angeles this year. Also I produced a feature film, which was greatly received at the Raindance Film Festival and the Cannes Underground Film Festival. It was even nominated for BIFA awards.
What projects do you have coming up?
I have been cast in quite a few projects this year. I am about to shoot the British thriller “Intoxicated”, which was developed out of a short film I did with Rishi Opel. I also starred in his commercially successful thriller “The Grind”. Then as I mentioned, I am filming a movie with Al Pacino in Los Angeles and a lead role in the feature film “Undercutt”, not to mention I am cast in the HULU TV series, which is going to be shot in Los Angeles this year as well.
Who would be your ideal co-star and why?
I would love to work with James Franco. I really like his laid back approach, Bill Murray, I love Jennifer Lawrence and would love to work with her. I think she would be great fun to work with.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans are to finish all the projects I have been cast in and I am also writing a feature film, which i would like to produce. I do stand up comedy as well, so I am looking forward to developing new material and I cannot wait to act in the TV series, I’ve also been cast in. I know there is one big name actress involved, but I cannot disclose too much information just yet.
What is your advice to aspiring performers?
My advice is to follow your heart, but take your head with you. I would say to be creative, innovative trying new things, grow as personalities as well as performers. Enjoy being who you are and bring yourself to the characters, go for it and enjoy the process.
