SUNDANCE 2007
Somebodies
"Somebodies" by Zack Roddy
Writer/Director/Actor Hadjii has brought to Sundance his debut film, Somebodies, a hilarious portrait of an Athens,
Georgia college student trying to find his way amongst his family, friends, and girlfriend. Starring Hadjii as Scottie, a young,
carefree college student, who loves to party, get stoned, and get girls. But when Scottie gets caught drunk driving, the police
offer Scottie a choice: prison or change. When Scottie decides to change, the police enforce on him an odd assortment of jobs:
including motivational speaker, for a group of rowdy children, and her must attend church more frequently. Scottie tries to navigate
his way through his zany aunt and uncle, his eccentric girlfriend, and different assortments of gang members before he realizes
this is all a part of growing up.
Somebodies is remarkable in that writer/director Hadjii looked like he used whatever resources where available to him,
which look like it could have been his friends and family. Although the camera work is poor, this is made up for in heart and the
directors belief in his material, making a truly funny film.
